A Local Artist at HOME in Darby Road

DRH is proud to welcome a new artist into our HOME.

Local landscape and still life painter, Cynthia Crimmin has four framed pieces featured in our showroom.  You'll notice when you see these in person that the lighting seems to radiate off the canvas (these pictures don't do them justice). Her technique and skill with texture contrasts with the lighting in such a way that these pieces seem more like a view out a window from a vacation home as opposed to viewing framed paintings.

The top left, "Fort Brook Pond", is in the showroom in a striking black frame which plays nicely with the shadowing on the brook.  "Gentle Swell" is featured in a glossy silver frame.  This finish compliments the lighting coming off the waves perfectly.  The bottom left, "Gossamer Tides", almost as perfect as a photograph, is in a matte silver frame with dark speckling detail.

Formerly an Art History major in college, Cynthia began working seriously on monochromatic portraiture in the 1980’s. She studied visual arts at the DeCordova Museum School in Lincoln, Massachusetts and the Art Institute of Boston. It was not until 2011 that Cynthia began to attend private classes with Jeanne Rosier Smith in her studio in Sudbury, Massachusetts.  Cynthia's work has been exhibited at the IAPS (International Pastel Society) juried shows in Albuquerque, New Mexico (2013) and at the Vose Gallery, Newbury Street, Massachusetts (2014); the Connecticut Pastel Society Juried Show (2012, 2013, 2014): the Concord Art Association Juried Show (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015); and Bennington Museum juried show “Impressions of New England,” Bennington, Vermont (2014).

Another interesting fact about Cynthia:  In her spare time she is a Principal at one of Weston, MA middle schools.  In her own words Cynthia said, "In some ways, seeing "the light" literally, in painting, relates to the metaphoric "light" I always found in teaching and learning and working with children, in general."

So, please stop by to see Cynthia Crimmin's work at Darby Road HOME. She is a local artist being featured at a local small business!  You'll be happy you did.
